Model kit of a Trabant 601, the third and most-built model of the Trabant series, which was produced by VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau starting in 1964. The panelling was made using Duroplast, a combination of plastic and cotton fibre. The 601 was driven by an air-cooled, two-cylinder, two- stroke engine with an distinctive engine noise. It initially offer 23 HP, graduating to 26 HP in 1969. The Trabant 601 stayed in production until 1990, with over 2.8 million units produced in total, and underwent only very few modifications.
