TAMIYA VW GOLF RACING ( RABBIT) COMPETITION SPECIAL 1981 VINTAGE KIT
Released on August 22, 1981, this Tamiya model is of the VW Golf. Made in Germany the Golf was a very successful replacement for "the people's car" the Beetle. It gained popularity in Europe and also in the USA where it was known as the Rabbit.
This was Tamiya's first attempt at this genre of RC car. Although the model emulates the original racing touring car the box type lexan polycarbonate body shell wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing of Tamiya's early models.
Assembly and set-up of the VW Golf was simple, the car was fast with the RS 540S motor and bevel gear differential and was relatively easy to handle, but plastic parts made for fragility. Replacement parts were soon difficult to find and there were few hop-ups to make the car more competitive unless you were able to engineer them personally.
Surprisingly, quite a few NIB kits of this car are available, considering it is only number 25 of Tamiya's First 100 vintage classic RC models.
